Wow 2020 is finally hindsight and true to the saying I am already seeing things for homeschooling in 2020 vision. When I look back at all I have learned while trying to ensure my kids are learning it has been a lot. I started the year very optimistic that homeschool would be a breeze. My Daughter is 1st grade age I enrolled her in a distance learning program by the county. 2 months into it we were spending our days rushing threw old blackboard style power points and to the bain of my existence I was scanning pages and uploading them 5 to 6 a day. It was busy work and no one was learning or having a good time. I talked with the mother of my daughters best friend from school they too decided to keep their child home for safety. They had bought a packet corse and where doing what they want as they wanted and seem to be learning good. I decide to follow pursuit I didn't purchase the same course instead I decide to give a company IXL.com a chance and for $19 a month I have access to all the interactive course work my daughter needs. I also added a education.com membership and the kids love the games on it. We start our days with videos on youtube from a Ms. Monica. If you don't know she does a daily circle time and it's a great started and saves me from going batty repeating days of the week everyday. An example of what our days have become: Breakfast Ms. Monica circle time Worksheet math or reading Math, Science and reading on IXL.com Lunch break Reading 1st readers Vocab flash cards education.com education game islands Math, Reading, Typing My daughter will also play some piano We don't do all this everyday but it's a good example We also have a friday educational project that is messy and hands on. Recess / outside time is different hot days we try to get out before its hot or after it's cooled and winter is during the warm sunny time so days a shaped around what we do not what we have to do. As much as I try to keep a monday to Friday schedule I also truly enjoy the freedom to do things anytime and not be stuck to a 9-5 routine.
