No Commitments/Membership Fees Local Fare serves all of the Jacksonville area. This company has a north and south branch depending on where you live, just click from a list and you are kicked to your region’s homepage. Menu is listed each week so you can prepare your meals accordingly and they offer a trial bag, so you don’t have to set up reoccurring payment. Every order comes with a freshly baked loaf from the French Pantry (legendary sandwich shop in Jax). The trial bag included a flyer with general info about the goods, specific recipes for the items and a helpful freshness timeline and all can be found online for the regular customers. Though not completely organic, the flyer identifies those items that are. Bags range from $27-$47… the bigger the bag, the more loaves of bread you get! The Neighborhood Garden is 100% certified organic produce. Unlike others, they source all their good from one farm (Albert’s Organics) in Sarasota. By definition that is a little over the average distance to be considered local (100~125). The reason being there are few certified organic farms near us. They offer FREE delivery to your doorstep and also provide pick up areas that will put $3 back in your pocket if those sites are more convenient for you. Pricing ranges from $23.50- $38.00 with options to purchase only fruit, only vegetables, add local grass-fed beef (White Pastures in Georgia and about $1.50 less than what you would pay at Publix), eggs and honey if available. The eggs are surprisingly cheap $2.75 compared to local grocery stores and other delivery services ($4-$5), but they are not near local (from Pennsylvania:( ) but still worth it. The Veggie Bin– Another reputable delivery service that provides more than just produce. The Veggie Bin also partners with the French Pantry, unlike Local Fare though the scrumptious bread is an extra. They also offer organic lentils, rice, and handmade soaps! I love that the Veggie Bin has a mini-bin option because some weeks I know my schedule doesn’t allow me a lot of home-cooking, and I would hate for it to go to waste. The Veggie Bin also works with business corporate wellness programs so that employees will have access to healthier foods, even delivering them to the businesses doorstep. Membership FeesBlackhog Farm– They recently decided to require members to buy a $12 per month farm card. Yes, it gives you some “members only” benefits like unlimited visits to the farm, discounts if you book a special event there and coupon-like deals on produce (even those require a minimum purchase), I’m not exactly sold on the farm card because $12 a month adds up. Blackhog offers some things that others don’t, like local Bold Bean coffee, herbs, organic natural peanut butter, antibiotic-free chicken and pork. Oh, and you can get an amazing fresh local turkey for Thanksgiving. BHF is not a certified organic grower, it does follow the same farming practices. Produce package prices range from $20- $27 giving you the option to the let the farmer choose your box or for a little more $$ you can choose the 8-10 items per box. Palmetto Organics– All fruits and vegetables sold are certified organic. Palmetto’s suppliers are a bit farther away than a typical local farm. If something comes from outside Florida (like organic fruit that is out-of-season here), Palmetto lets you know. 100% organic is a bit more expensive, “harvest” or produce bags range from $25-$45 and Palmetto does charge a $15 set up fee for an order. Like them on Facebook and you may get a $15 off promo code. Palmetto offers great add-ons like chia, sunflower seeds, Himalayan salts and Goji berries. They send you an email listing all the produce on a Friday so you can plan before you head to the grocery store.
