Savannah Georgia the City that let's you drink in the Streets.

Upon my visit to Savannah georgia I was surprised to learn that you can drink in the street near the riverfront. For our 1st stop Denis and Myself visited the Savannah Bee Company for a honey tasting and were informed that we could take a bottle of mead in the streets just as long as we have no glass or labels showing. 

What is Mead? you say. 

Mead is a liqueur that is made in a process only using honey, water and yeast. We sampled many varieties and fell in love with the stuff. After a fun and informative tasting we left with a bottle of the watermelon mead. That is made by infusing after fermentation with watermelon. When visiting the Savannah Bee company come hungry to enjoy many different honeys. The day we visited they also had apple slices and cheese available. Honey is at a premium price but I was happy to purchase a nice size honeycomb for $20 and a traditional wooden honey dipper. The Mead tasting was very informative and worth the $7 per person to taste. The tasting included 5 varieties and we were also served a extra house label to sample.

After our tasting we heading threw the saturday markets to see local artists and street performers. It was a pleasure strolling the streets of Savannah, Georgia listen to different local street singers representing a high level of skill.

Hunger and the smell of seafood drove us to the first place we found The Cotton Exchange. We were able to sit down right away in the bar side of the restaurant at a window table. Upon the recommendation and description provided by the waitress we both decided to have the tortellini with shrimp and scallops. I recommend it!

The FREE river trolley runs every 30 mins to take you around the river north, south or across to the trade center. I had originally planned to take the river trolley back to the end of the riverfront where we parked but the walk and ambiance of the city was too enjoyable to not stroll back. ​​​The old historical steps and cobblestone street are beautiful.

Walking back was totally worth it as we got to visit Savannah's Candy Kitchen home of the AMAZING candy apples below. They also give out samples! I Sampled the candied pecans and they are soooo yummy! 

After a great tasting tour and lunch in Savannah, Denis and myself packed up and headed north to Charleston.
